Leaving Whistler for a Ski Vacation?

January 26, 2007

You may find this hard to believe but I am heading out on Monday for a ski adventure. Leaving Whistler during an epic season is questionable. However, I am on my way to shred some powder in the Himalayas. Gulmarg to be more precise.

What's a Gulmarg you ask? Check it out. recommended in the London Times 'How to spend it' review.

I will have the unique pleasure of traveling with Peter Smart, owner of Extremely Canadian. We're going to have a few days of scoping lines prior to clients arriving.

This should be quite an adventure!

Stay tuned,

There are so many great things about sunny days here in Whistler. The coast range mountains look great. Everyone is happy. And most importantly, you can rip nice steep lines because you can see where you are going. That is exactly what Greg and I were up to. We are picking a line that you won't find on the Whistler Blackcomb trail map!

Sun and Steeps in Whistler

January 15, 2007

What a great weekend. The sun was shining, the snow was soft, and the temperatures were inverted.

An inversion, for those who don't know, happens when cold air is trapped in the valley and the top of the mountain is up to 5 degrees Celsius warmer than the bottom. You could really feel the change on the ski out. From mid-station down was cold but the top of the mountain had glorious sunny conditions.

What's in store next? Well, by the look of the forecast no one really knows. The high pressure will probably hold for another week with some weak disturbances (clouds) thrown in.

A Break in the Weather

January 10, 2007

Well,

I tried skiing yesterday. It was an experience...in swinging on the chair. There were high winds and strange conditions for most of the day. So, sometimes you have to make time for a high altitude coffee.

Then we found some fresh powder in the trees and skied out to the bottom.

Now we are looking down the barrel of an Artic high pressure. It looks pretty but is kind of chilly.

The snow in the high alpine should be good but you may want to get out the race skis for mid mountain.

Remember, we're still running all kinds of great specials through the entire season. You can find these on our site at ski-whistler.com.

Whistler Resort Getting Hammered in 2007

January 08, 2007

We are still seeing storm cycles depositing huge amounts of snow on our mountains. People are literally skiing, shoveling or sleeping. Well, there may be some time for apres in there, but hey, when isn't there.

So we are recovering from a busy holiday season. One of the most amazing things with our resort is that the village can be super busy but skiers are spread out all over the mountain in a hurry. This is also leaving nice pockets of snow for those who know where to find them...

So, if you can get up here to enjoy Whistler or Blackcomb, I highly recommend it.

Get out there and ski the powder!

Happy New Year

Whistler is set to receive even more snow this week. Nice to see some things carry over from year to year.
